Silas Heap is walking home through the snow when he discovers a baby girl with violet eyes. He decides to bring her home, and he and his wife, Sarah, name her Jenna. At the same time, their newborn son, Septimus, dies.
Ten years later, Jenna finds out that she is a princess and that the Supreme Custodian is trying to kill her. Marcia Oversland, the Extraordinary Wizard, takes Jenna to the wizard tower to keep her safe, but Jenna is not safe.
Marcia, Jenna, Boy 412, Nicko, Silas, and Maxie go on a wild ride trying to keep Jenna safe.
