The Handmaid’s Tale is a dystopian novel that tells the story of the Republic of Gilead from Offred’s point of view. This totalitarian government views women as objects and that their only purpose is to serve their commander and his wife by being able to have children. Offred tells the story of her daily life as a handmaid, but will experience flashbacks to when she, her husband Luke, and her daughter were a family. Also, these flashbacks reveal what happened as this new government took control. The Handmaid’s Tale is a page turner that you won’t want to put down. With vivid description, and various allusions, this book feels relevant.
