Between the years of 1875 and 1898, Southampton-born Captain George White and ex-slave Pyrrhus Concer made twelve voyages to the far east in search of whales. Based on ships’ logs and diaries, a fascinating story emerges about the rewards and perils of voyages at sea, and about an unlikely friendship forged between two men. Tom Edmonds, executive director of the Southampton Historical Museum, will give a fifty minute PowerPoint presentation on these two 19th century men whose influence on Southampton can still be seen today.
All are invited to attend this family presentation.
