The story “Chinese Cinderella”, by Adeline Yen Mah, is a very emotional true story, narrated by a woman named Adeline who reflected on her life as young child. Throughout her childhood, we can see her highs and lows in life, and we could also feel the sadness she felt. Adeline was born into a life of what was to become horrific after her mother died while giving birth to her. The reader sees Adeline go from being a happy child until her grandmother’s death. When Adeline’s grandmother passes, her stepmother is now in control of her family. It is here where the story reveals the great struggles Adeline endured. The twists and turns keep the reader hanging on to what would happen on every page. When reading this, I felt as if I was walking in the shoes of Adeline. Overall this story has excellent character development, tone, and it really just pulls you in.
